West Ham United are reportedly interested in AS Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers are rivalling Everton for the 31-year-old defensive midfielder, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Nzonzi – a £27 million signing (Goal) – is expected back at his parent club having recently been suspended for disciplinary reasons.

The former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City man had made 10 starts before the training ground incident.

Gazzetta don’t comment on what Nzonzi’s preference would be this month, but a departure from Gala seems a given.

Nzonzi, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, also apparently has interest from his homeland in the form of Lyon.

TBR’s view – Nzonzi would be a fine West Ham addition

Arguably Nzonzi is exactly the kind of player West Ham need in their midfield right now.

The star is a physical presence and could potentially work really well together with Declan Rice in the engine room.

The Irons are lacking options in midfield so, if anything, a move would definitely help ease the load on Rice, Mark Noble and Carlos Sanchez.
