West Ham transfer: Hammers reportedly in talks over Chelsea star
Sky Sports News (29/07: 15:00) are claiming that West Ham United are in talks with Chelsea over the signing of Kurt Zouma. The Hammers are preparing a £20 million bid, which isn’t thought to grab the Blues’ attention.
The France defender is set to fall down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel next season. He has also been linked with Sevilla as part of a deal that would see Jules Kounde arrive in London.
The caveat to this, however, is that the player is happy in London. At 26, Zouma will fancy first-team football next season and could welcome a move to the London Stadium.
Zouma was on the bench as Chelsea beat Manchester City in the Champions League Final. He did, however, manage 36 appearances in all competitions during 2020/21.
With the Blues chasing Kounde though, his options could be restricted. West Ham on the other hand are keen to add a centre-back and Zouma could be ideal.
The international performer earns £46,000-a-week at Chelsea and a wage in that bracket shouldn’t be a problem for the Hammers.
Zouma and West Ham could be match made in heaven
David Moyes has scored the market high and low for a centre-back and he could now hit the jackpot if he lands Zouma.
Zouma wants to stay in London and it seems unlikely that he will cost a fortune. He would also give the Hammers a player who is familiar with European competition.
West Ham have been very meticulous in their search for players this summer and that doesn’t come as a surprise.
Frank Lampard has a foot in both Chelsea and West Ham camps and he previously called him ‘very composed’ when he managed him at Stamford Bridge.
Zouma knows the Premier League and West Ham should pull out the stops for the France performer.
