West Ham United remain in discussions to sign Alphonse Areola, L’Equipe report, although getting a deal done may not be simple.
Talks ongoing
West Ham are aiming to land the PSG stopper on a loan deal, much like Fulham did last season.
However, the French club are more keen to sell him on a permanent basis.
Whether West Ham would be wiling to sanction the purchase of the 28-year-old stopper, who is on a £75,000-a-week contract with PSG (Spotrac), remains to be seen.
But it seems that the two clubs are trying to negotiate a compromise at the moment.
West Ham are currently prepared to put a buy clause in the deal, which may work as a sweetener for PSG.
Good signing?
If he was to arrive at the London Stadium, Areola could potentially be a solid addition to West Ham’s squad.
His form at Fulham last season was strong, despite their relegation.

That experience should mean that Areola wouldn’t need much time to settle.
West Ham do currently have Lukasz Fabianski, who has always been a reliable custodian for them.
But the Pole’s fitness record wasn’t particularly great last season, and he is now advancing in years.
Areola is considerably younger and if he was brought to West Ham he could offer them a strong alternative, although the Hammers seem unconvinced over signing him on a long-term basis at this stage.
