Report: West Ham have made their move to sign 'top player', Rooney thinks he could be just like Declan Rice
Gallagher was loaned out to Crystal Palace last season and put in some dazzling displays at Selhurst Park.
His form earned him praise from pundits and fellow Premier League footballers, including Conor Coady, who told TalkSPORT that Gallagher is a ‘top player’ back in November last year.
The 22-year-old’s performance against Arsenal last season even led to Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney praising the player on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, and comparing him to Declan Rice.
“He is a player who brings a lot of energy, but he also has a lot of quality to go alongside that,” Rooney said.
“I think he deserves his England call-up and deserves to play in those games, and I think he can play a big part for England going forward.
“He can be a player, like Declan Rice, that can be that engine of that England team. I would take him to the World Cup, he is a player who is appreciated a lot more by his team-mates and that shows signs that you are a good player.” as transcribed by Chelsea Clique.
West Ham move to sign Gallagher
Now it seems that the Hammers have attempted to make Rooney’s comment a reality, by pairing the two together.
The Hammers enquired about the Chelsea youngster but he wants to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher came on as a substitute late on against Everton on Saturday evening as he made his debut for the Blues.
The England international faces tough competition for a place in the Chelsea team, with the likes of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho at the club.
Gallagher is more likely to get playing time at West Ham but it seems the former Palace man is up for the challenge to break into the Blues team this season.
David Moyes missed out on Jesse Lingard this summer as the player chose to join Nottingham Forest instead, so the Scotsman is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.
But after Gallagher has seemingly turned down a move to the Hammers, they may now have to look elsewhere once again.
