West Ham are reportedly interested in centre-forward Duvan Zapata, who plays for Italian top-flight club Atalanta.

According to Eurosport, the Hammers have a £35million budget this summer to sign a new striker.

It is understood that Zapata has now been added to the West Ham shortlist, and they have made an enquiry to check on the player’s status.

The report explains that the 30-year-old is on a “priority list’ along with Sparta Prague’s Adam Hlozek and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Zapata, who is a key player at Atalanta, has scored 18 goals and supplied 12 assists in 45 games across all competitions so far this season.

The Colombia international has the pace, power and work rate that could see him be a real success in the Premier League. He’s currently a frontman in an Atalanta team that are second in Serie A.

TBR’s View:

Zapata looks like an individual that would be a great addition at the London Stadium if he moved to the Premier League.

However, the fact he’s aged 30 isn’t too appealing, and it’s also unclear on how much he would cost.

He’s a target certainly worth looking at in more detail, but you’ve got to consider West Ham’s only other striker Michail Antonio is a 31-year-old.

If Hammers boss David Moyes has the option to bring in someone a bit younger that can develop as Antonio’s understudy, that could make a bit more sense in the transfer window.
