West Ham United could face having to pay £40 million if they want to make Jesse Lingard’s move permanent, with The Sun reporting that Manchester United are considering doubling his previous asking price.
Lingard has been a revelation since arriving at the London Stadium in the winter. He has gone on to score five goals and contribute two assists for the Hammers.

The attacking midfielder has put himself back on the international radar, and it now appears that he is in contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad at Euro 2020.
The Sun claims that his parent club were prepared to let the 28-year-old go for £20 million when they signed off the loan move.

But they are now considering pushing his asking price up significantly. And The Sun suggests that that could price West Ham out of the race.
TBR View: West Ham could hardly be blamed for stepping aside over £40m asking price
It could prove a masterstroke if West Ham decide to pay £40 million for Lingard. He has been outstanding in recent months. And he seems to make those playing around him at the London Stadium better.
However, you could also understand if the Irons decided against a move at that price. He turns 29 before the end of the year.
And with his contract at Old Trafford up in 2022 (via Goal), it is potentially too large a fee to pay this summer.
