West Ham United are making a last-gasp attempt to bolster their defensive ranks with the signing of Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea, according to The Guardian (Live Transfer Blog; 05/10; 18:47)
The Hammers have been trying frantically to add a centre-back to their ranks this summer and have now turned to Tomori.
Chelsea don’t look like offloading Antoni Rudiger before tonight’s deadline but do need to get rid of a centre-back.

The Blues youngster now looks like falling behind the German in the pecking order and a move to West Ham would allow him to play regular football.
Tomori has made two appearances in the Carabao Cup this season and came on at half-time of the Premier League defeat to Liverpool last month.
Last season, the 22-year-old played 22 times for Chelsea as Frank Lampard placed his trust in the club’s younger players.
After a summer spending spree, he is now back down the pecking order though and the Hammers are trying to pounce.
West Ham have enjoyed a decent week with two brilliant wins against Wolves and Leicester City.
David Moyes has worked tirelessly during the summer to sign a defender and is now making a late attempt to bolster his squad.
Tomori signed a new long term contract in 2019 worth £75,000-a-week and he does seem to be valued as one for the future at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham chose not to break the bank to sign James Tarkowski from Burnley and Tomori might provide the club with a short-term solution.
The Hammers have a pretty decent squad, although they do look desperately short of options at centre-back.
Moyes will fancy his chances of improving on last season’s poor campaign and persuing Tomori late in the day looks like a good move.
