Sport Witness have claimed that West Ham United are interested in signing Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder Irfan Can Kahveci, and the player is keen on leaving the SuperLig side.

The 23-year-old playmaker has shone for Baseksehir this season, having a hand in nine goals during his 33 league and cup appearances. He has scored four times – including one against Galatasaray – and five assists.

The six-time Turkey international has a contract at the SuperLig leaders until the summer of 2021. But the report states that he is looking to leave Baseksehir despite their position in the table.

The Hammers have brought in plenty of players from Turkey in recent years, as well as manager Slaven Bilic from Besiktas. Gokhan Tore and Emmanuel Emenike have joined the Hammers in recent years.

TBR’s view

The Hammers are lacking in the middle of the park. Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez’s long-term injuries have left Manuel Pellegrini with little options in central midfield.

Only Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang have been used as central midfielders this season. Even though the crocked duo have returned, Pellegrini is likely to want more cover.

Kahveci could be an option and certainly has time on his side. But his stats are hardly that impressive for a playmaker in the top tier of Turkish football. The Hammers can do better.
