Report: West Ham eye 24-year-old who admires Raphaël Varane, but he wants to join Leicester
According to 90min, West Ham admire Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby as they eye reinforcements at centre-back.
What’s the story?
Well, 90min revealed the information in an article claiming that Sevilla striker Luuk de Jong is also on West Ham’s radar.
There is admiration for Diakhaby from the east Londoners, who are also fans of Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car.
The 24-year-old is an important player for the Spanish side, making 26 appearances for them in La Liga last season.
Interestingly, Diakhaby has admitted that he models himself on Manchester United new boy Raphaël Varane in an interview with 20 minutes (via GFFN).
If he plays anything like the World Cup winning Frenchman, David Moyes could have a serious player on his hands soon.
Sorry West Ham, Diakhaby wants Leicester
According to AS, the centre-back has received interest from Newcastle and Leicester as well.
While he’s aware there will be more playing opportunities on Tyneside, Diakhaby is said to be keen on the move to Leicester.
Now, it’s up to West Ham to pounce before the Foxes make a concrete move.
The Irons can also offer Diakhaby Europa League football like Leicester can, so it’s not exactly unfathomable that West Ham change his mind.
There should be plenty of playing opportunities at the London Stadium following Fabian Balbuena’s exit.
West Ham’s centre-back department certainly looks a little light.
If the Hammers sign Diakhaby, it would be a fantastic signing.
