According to Italian outlet Il Messagaro, West Ham may pay over £20m to bring in Lazio goalkeeper, Thomas Strakosha.

The report claims that the Rome giants could be about to cash in on their stopper, with no sign of a new contract in the offing. Strakosha’s current deal apparently expires in 2022.

West Ham are on the prowl for a new goalkeeper. Lukasz Fabianski is now 35 and David Moyes will know at some point he’ll need to look to replace the experienced Premier League stopper.

Strakosha is still just 25 but has bags of experience. He’s also won 14 caps for Albania and has firmly cemented himself as one of the better stoppers over in Serie A.

He is just one shy of keeping his 50th clean sheet having made 174 appearances for Lazio. West Ham, then, could opt to make their move this summer and get Strakosha in the door before other interest emerges.

All goalkeepers see their shelf life come to an end and it’s no different with Fabianski at West Ham. Not that he still can’t do a job well into his 30s, but he’ll be aware new kid on the block will arrive soon.

Strakosha seems to have everything needed. Games under his belt at a big club and international experience, West Ham could do far worse.

And at £25m, if he is a success anyway, that fee could represent a big bargain given the longevitiy of goalkeepers these days.
