Report: West Ham considering £8.5m offer, West Brom also keen

Swiss outlet Blick have claimed West Ham United are considering an offer of £8.5million for FC Basel striker Albian Ajeti, but are likely to face competition from Slave Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion.

Ajeti, 22, scored 21 goals last season for FC Basel as they finished second in the Swiss Super League. Not only did he prove excellent in front of goal during 2018-19, but the Switzerland international also laid on 11 assists.

The striker has proved he is more than capable of scoring in Europe, too. He scored in Champions League and Europa League qualifying last season, and found the back of the net against PSV Eindhoven this season.

He already has two goals and two assists in three games. It has caught the eye of the Hammers, who are looking to table and £8.5million offer to bring him in as back-up to new striker Sebastian Haller.

But the east Londoners may face competition from a friendly source. Former boss Bilic is also keen on Ajeti with West Brom keen on bringing strikers to The Hawthorns this summer.

TBR’s view – Ajeti a bargain at £8.5m for West Ham or West Brom

Both sides need a striker and at £8.5million, Ajeti is an absolute bargain. But if both clubs are interested and do make offers for the seven-time international, Ajeti has a big decision to make.

Does he want to join a Premier League side and act as back-up to Haller, but make appearances in the cup and from the bench along with Javier Hernandez? Or does he want to be first choice at a Championship side.

It remains to be seen.
