West Ham are reportedly close to securing a deal for attacker Albian Ajeti from Swiss club FC Basel.

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers are “closing in” on a move for the 22-year-old centre-forward.

It is understood that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are set to pay £8million for him and that he was previously linked with a move to West Brom.

The report details that the Switzerland international is set to pen a £50,000-a-week contract if he moves to the London Stadium.

West Ham have been busy so far in the summer window and made some exciting additions to the squad, but it seems like they could have another before Thursday’s deadline.

Ajeti has played three games so far this campaign for Basel, scoring two goals and supplying two assists in return.

He’s a Swiss striker that has proven he’s a goal threat in the air and looks ready for a crack in the Premier League for the first time.

TBR’s View:

Ajeti played 43 games for Basel last season, scoring 21 goals and supplying 11 assists in return.

There is no guarantee that he can replicate that kind of form in England straight away, but he’s a promising 22-year-old on the rise and looks a potential bargain investment at £8million.

Sebastien Haller is set to be the number one striker for West Ham this campaign following his summer arrival, but having Ajeti as his understudy could be a great move.
