According to Football.London, West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to make one more signing this summer. The veteran Chilean coach wants to bring an additional centre-back to the London Stadium.
The Hammers have already done some good business in this transfer window. The likes of Sebastien Haller, Roberto and Pablo Fornals have swelled the Irons’ ranks. On top of that, Marko Arnautovic, Pedro Obiang and Lucas Perez, amongst others, have left the east London club behind.
Reece Oxford has also left West Ham, joining Bundesliga outfit Augsburg. Pellegrini is now keen to bring in a new centre-back to provide back up to Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena – a role that might have otherwise been handed to Oxford.
Diop and Balbuena enjoyed fine campaigns in the Premier League last time out. They are certain to begin the new season as Pellegrini’s first choice centre-back partnership. A more competitive back up option than Angelo Ogbonna would be a wise addition though. Especially as the other option, Winston Reid, is too injury-prone to be relied upon.
If Pellegrini can plug this gap in his squad, then West Ham fans can reflect upon a successful transfer window.
