Report: West Ham are now seriously scared that Newcastle will sign their £30m target, he's already in London
West Ham United looked all set to sign Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd, but the Irons are now fearing that Newcastle will lure him away from them this summer.
David Moyes wanted his Hammers side to get into the Champions League last season, but a poor end to the campaign that saw then win just once in their last seven fixtures pushed them down to seventh in the table.
West Ham will be in the UEFA Conference League as a result next campaign, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Moyes will seriously fancy his side’s chances to go all the way in the competition, but they’ll need some help off the transfer market.
Aguerd is the man West Ham reportedly want to bring in, but they’re worried about that deal now.
West Ham fear Newcastle will sign Nayef Aguerd
The Daily Star claimed yesterday that West Ham are afraid that Newcastle United will hijack their reported move for Rennes star Aguerd.
The report claims that the Irons already have a £30 million deal in place with the French club to sign the talented Moroccan who played 40 times in all competitions for Rennes last season.
The report further claims that Aguerd was all set to join West Ham and has even flown over to London for a medical. However, with Newcastle’s interest now, the centre-half’s move to Moyes’ side is now under serious doubt.
It has been claimed that Aguerd is ‘yet to make up his mind on who to join’ – West Ham or Newcastle United.
TBR View:
This really is a tough position to be in for West Ham. It looked like everything was set and that Aguerd would move to the London Stadium after a deal was agreed with Rennes. That agreement could mean nothing now.
Newcastle United, under their new owners, are now a very attractive option for many players in the world. The way they bounced back from the brink of relegation last season also proved they have a really interesting project at hand, which could tempt players to secure a move there.
To add to that, the Magpies are now capable of offering a lot more money to players than the likes of West Ham and many other clubs in the country.
It is no surprise that West Ham are afraid that they’ll miss out on Aguerd this summer. On the flip side, if Newcastle pull this off, it would be a massive statement.
