Report: West Ham and Tottenham will pursue January move for Champions League midfielder

A report from CalcioMercato states that Tottenham and West Ham could make a January move to sign Juventus star Weston McKennie.

McKennie, 23, was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer – despite a brilliant first season at Juventus, playing 46 times.

Not only that, but the USA international had a hand in nine goals – scoring six and creating three. But the arrival of Max Allegri has not been good.

At least, not for McKennie. He has only started four of his side’s nine games so far, completing 90 minutes on just two occasions for the Old Lady.

The midfielder is edging closer to the exit door with Allegri seemingly happy to sanction his exit. The Indpendent say he is rated at £40million.

Tottenham and West Ham eye McKennie: A good signing?

The report states that both West Ham and Spurs are keen on McKennie, having both been linked with the ex-Schalke star in the summer.

Tottenham certainly need midfield depth. Harry Winks is being linked with a move to both Inter Milan and Roma, in another CalcioMercato report.

Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg combined on Sunday against Villa. But the duo need cover and McKennie can provide that.

Of course, he can play in attacking role, box-to-box, or as a defensive midfielder. He can even play as a right-back, or at centre-back.

West Ham need depth and his versatility would be ideal. But Tottenham might have the spending power over the Hammers.
