Report: West Ham and Patrick Vieira are keen to sign Manchester City's new David Silva
According to a report from The Athletic, West Ham United, Brighton and Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace are all keen to sign Manchester City starlet James McAtee.
The 18-year-old is one of City’s brightest young talents. He has played nine games for the youth side this season, and has scored 12 goals and has provided three assists in all competitions.
That is a phenomenal record and it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a household name in the Premier League. However, breaking into Manchester City’s first team is far from easy.
McAtee, naturally an attacking midfielder, has the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva to displace, which is unlikely to happen anytime soon. That’s the reason why the likes of West Ham, Palace and Brighton are looking to lure him away.
West Ham and Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on James McAtee
McAtee’s current contract at Manchester City ends in a little over 18 months. He is yet to pen a new deal at the club, but Pep Guardiola’s side have no intention of cashing in on him just yet.
The report claims that Brighton tabled an £8 million bid for the teenage prodigy, but City turned it down immediately. They want to keep hold of him at all costs, but if McAtee doesn’t sign a new deal by the end of this season, they may be forced to sell him.
The report claims that along with Brighton, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also interested in his services. All three clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to pounce if the teenager is made available for sale.
McAtee has been compared to David Silva
Almost every football fan will agree that David Silva is one of the greatest attacking midfielders to grace the Premier League. The Spaniard is one of the biggest reasons why City have won so many titles over the last decade.
McAtee would love to emulate Silva at City, a player he has been compared to. He has been dubbed the ‘Salford Silva‘ thanks to his position, style and the way he moves across the pitch with the ball at his feet.
West Ham, Brighton and Palace are right to keep an eye on McAtee, who is one of the most talented players of his age in the country at the moment.
It’s unlikely that the Cityzens will let him leave, but if they do, whichever club lands him will have struck gold, just like City did with Silva all those years ago.
