West Ham United and Newcastle United are amongst the Premier League sides keen on signing Gonzalo Plata, with The Sun on Sunday (29/11; page 65) reporting that Sporting are willing to loan him out in January.
The 20-year-old has only made a handful of appearances this season. However, he has a number of English clubs monitoring his progress.
According to The Sun on Sunday (29/11; page 65), the Hammers and the Magpies have been joined by Leicester City and Brighton in the running to sign Plata.
Interestingly, the report notes that Sporting believe that loaning him out in January will offer them the best chance of securing a £20 million fee for the youngster further down the line.
It is suggested that Sporting feel that the current difficulties surrounding scouting players makes a permanent move less likely.
TBR View: Loan for Plata surely worth the gamble for West Ham or Newcastle
Plata is yet to make a significant impact for his current side this season. However, the likes of West Ham or Newcastle would surely be wise to consider making a loan bid in January.
Plata looks to be an exciting talent. He boasts frightening pace and he can play on either wing.
As reported by Record, he has a release clause of £45 million. So if his Premier League admirers do not have to commit to making the move permanent, getting him on loan could prove to be an inspired roll of the dice.
