Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed both West Ham United and Newcastle United are showing ‘strong interest’ in raiding Italian champions Juventus for defender Daniele Rugani, who is struggling for game time with the Old Lady.
Rugani, 26, has been linked repeatedly with a move to the Premier League over the past few seasons. Wolves made a £30million bid last summer for Rugani despite Arsenal being interested in the seven-time Italy ace, as per The Times.
The Juve academy product faces competition from Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Merih Demiral and Matthijs de Ligt at centre-back – while new manager Andrea Pirlo used Danilo in a three-man defence on Sunday evening.
The report states that both West Ham and Newcastle are interested in Rugani, who has a contract at Juve until the summer of 2024. TuttoJuve claimed earlier this summer that defender Rugani is valued at £23million.
TBR’s view – Rugani a good addition at either side?
Given that West Ham have had offers worth more than £30million for James Tarkowski rejected, landing Rugani for little over £20million would be excellent business for either side. Whether Newcastle need him as much as, remains to be seen.
Newcastle boast Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar as options. Another could be needed if Steve Bruce opts to use a three-man defence, but the Hammers certainly need him more.
