Report: West Ham and Newcastle eye Mario Lemina; will cost £7m
West Ham and Newcastle United have made contact with Mario Lemina’s representatives, with the Guardian reporting that both clubs are interested in signing the Southampton midfielder this summer.
Lemina is facing an uncertain future. The Gabon international has spent the season on loan at Fulham. Unfortunately, Scott Parker’s side look to be in serious danger of making an immediate return to the Championship.
The Guardian reports that Fulham have an option to buy Lemina. However, relegation is likely to put pay to their hopes of keeping the 27-year-old.
And it appears that several sides are preparing moves in case he does not remain at Craven Cottage.
According to the Guardian, both West Ham and the Magpies have approached Lemina’s representatives.
The report adds that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men remain open to selling Lemina. It is suggested that his asking price is just £7 million.
TBR View: Lemina worth the gamble at £7m
Lemina has not had the best time since arriving in the Premier League. So it would not be a surprise if some supporters of West Ham and Newcastle were against a move.
However, if Lemina – who became the Saints’ record signing when he arrived (via Guardian) – is indeed available for just £7 million, a move could prove to be a masterstroke.
On his day, he is an outstanding midfielder. And if David Moyes or Steve Bruce can get the best out of him, he could be an amazing signing given his asking price.
