Report: West Ham and Newcastle eye Marc Guehi, but move less likely
Both West Ham United and Newcastle have taken a look at Marc Guehi, but The Athletic suggests that two of their Premier League rivals are more likely to land the centre-back this summer.
Guehi has enjoyed a superb year out on loan with Swansea City. And their campaign could still end with promotion to the Premier League.
It appears that his form is not going unnoticed by a number of sides in the top flight.
Unsurprisingly, The Athletic reports that the Swans would love to keep Guehi if promoted. But the likes of Southampton and Crystal Palace are showing serious interest in the Chelsea youngster.
The report adds that the Hammers and Magpies are also keen on the 20-year-old, who could cost around £20 million if he leaves this summer. However, The Athletic claims joining either is deemed to be less likely.
His form suggests that paying £20 million for the England under-21 international could prove to be a bargain over the coming years.
Only three centre-backs have made a greater number of successful challenges in the Championship this season (via Whoscored). And only one of those above him has made fewer unsuccessful attempts at a tackle.
Meanwhile, he is just outside the top ten for interceptions amongst centre-backs.
And based on the reports from The Athletic, it appears that there is a very good chance that he will have the chance to play regularly in the Premier League from next season.
