West Ham have reignited their interest in signing Duje Caleta-Car, while Calciomercato claims that Newcastle United also want the Marseille star.

Caleta-Car has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the Hammers amongst those regularly touted as admirers.

It was reported earlier this year that the Ligue 1 side had transfer listed the Croatia international amid interest from the Irons.

And it appears that he may be on their radar once again heading into the January transfer window, which is just about emerging on the horizon.

Calciomercato reports that West Ham want the defender. But Newcastle have also joined the race as the Magpies prepare for their first window following the dramatic takeover.

Caleta-Car has had an interesting season to date. He did not feature in any of Jorge Sampaoli’s side’s first five league games. He was an unused substitute on three occasions.

But he has since played six of their last eight in the top-flight. And in that time, he has helped his side keep three clean sheets.

One of those came against Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Lille are the only team to have scored more than once against a Marseille side that included Caleta-Car.

Calciomercato notes that his contract expires in 2023. So West Ham or Newcastle may sense that the door may be open for a potential bargain.

January window for West Ham and Newcastle looks set to be massive amid Caleta-Car links

For very different reasons, January is going to be a huge month for both West Ham and Newcastle.

The Magpies are five points off safety. West Ham are three points off the top of the table.

So both sides may be taking a big gamble if they do not strengthen in the winter window.

And with that, a move for Caleta-Car may be looked upon as an important piece of business for both sides.
