Report: West Ham and Everton battling it out for Lazio's Joaquin Correa

West Ham United and Everton are interested in Lazio’s Joaquin Correa, according to TyC Sports.

According to Italian media, Maurizio Sarri is close to being appointed the club’s new manager. The former Chelsea manager has asked for five new signings meaning the club have to sell this summer.

Correa has been earmarked as a sale to raise funds. The Argentine enjoyed a fairly decent season last term, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists.

He enjoyed a brilliant time with the Rome-based outfit since his move in 2018. The ace scored the second goal in the 2020 Italian Cup final victory over Juventus.

TBR View: Correa transfer would add quality to both Everton and West Ham

Both the Blues and the Irons enjoyed differing campaigns last season. David Moyes’ side qualified for the Europa League, whilst Carlo Ancelotti’s men finished 10th.

However, their needs in the transfer market are similar.

Prior to leaving Goodison Park, Ancelotti spoke of the desire to add more attacking talent to the team.

Even with a new manager, that is unlikely to change. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored 16 goals in the Premier League last season with the next highest striking just seven times.

Meanwhile, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals struggled in attack throughout last year. With the club in the Europa League, attacking quality is in desperate need.

Despite joining in the January window, Jesse Lingard finished as the club’s top scorer in the top-flight. Michail Antonio also struggled in the second half of the season displaying the need for more attackers.

Everton and West Ham both require attacking reinforcements this summer, making a move for Correa urgent. However, with both clubs providing different opportunities, it’s hard to see the Blues beating the Londoners to a move.
