West Ham have reportedly submitted an offer for highly-rated defender Duje Caleta-Car at French top-flight club Marseille.
According to Sky Sports, the Hammers have launched a £20million bid for the 24-year-old as they look to complete some transfer business late in the summer window.
The Croatia international is a key player for Marseille and the report doesn’t indicate how they will respond to West Ham’s approach.
Caleta-Car, 24, is a ball-playing centre-back that is an ever-present in the Marseille XI and he’s started all five of their opening league games this season.
He helped them finish second in Ligue 1 during the last campaign and yesterday they discovered their group stage opponents in this season’s Champions League, where they will face Manchester City, Porto and Olympiacos.
Caleta-Car is a towering 6ft 4in defender with great physical strength and he’s renowned for being dominant in the air, which is why fans should be excited if he ends up at the London Stadium this season.
West Ham managed to sign right-back Vladimir Coufa from Slavia Prague on Friday, but it’s been a quiet window from the club and they need a busy few final days to get supporters back on their side.
David Moyes’ team could definitely do with some more defensive recruits and the Marseille enforcer looks like he would be a great additon.
