West Brom are keen on signing Crystal Palace striker and former Liverpool man, Christian Benteke, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The big striker has failed to ever really get going since moving to Selhurst Park and the signing of Jean-Philippe Mateta is believed to have pushed Benteke further down the Palace pecking order.
And according to The Daily Mail, Sam Allardyce could be willing to take Benteke to The Hawthorns. The new Baggies boss has made no secret of his desire to bring new players in, despite getting off to a decent enough start in the Midlands.
One problem for West Brom could be Benteke’s wages. His apparent £125k-a-week salary was enough to put Aston Villa off last year.
Despite his lack of goals, Benteke would bring experience and presence to Albion. His form at Villa earned him the move to Liverpool but he has stalled a bit since. A move now, then, could well spark his career one final time in England.
TBR View: Benteke a big presence but will he get goals?
If you are going to pay that sort of wage to someone then you want a return so the pressure would be on Bentek to deliver here.
He can do it. He’s shown in the past he can bag and even when he’s not scoring, he can be a nightmare for defenders when he’s right at it.
Having won a title in Belgium with Genk, helping Albion escape relegation might just go right up there with that honour if Benteke does complete this move and help the Baggies to survival.
