West Brom are trying to sign Leicester City striker Islam Slimani on a season-long loan deal, according to The Telegraph.

The Algerian talisman has entered the final year of his contract and is way down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.

Slimani signed for the Foxes in 2016 shortly after they lifted the Premier League title. He cost the East Midlands-based outfit £29 million, which at the time was a club record.

His time at Leicester hasn’t gone according to plan, however, with just 13 goals coming from 46 appearances at the club.

During 2019/20 he went on loan to Monaco where he rediscovered some form again. He fired nine goals and registered seven assists from just 19 appearances.

He hasn’t made a squad under Brendan Rodgers this season and with Leicester keen to add to their squad, getting Slimani out would make sense.

West Brom are currently finding their feet on their return to the Premier League. They were well beaten by Leicester on the opening day and against Everton a week later.

At the weekend they raced into a three-goal lead over Chelsea, only to be pegged back in stoppage time by a Tammy Abraham equaliser.

More firepower is certainly the order of the day for Slaven Bilic as he attempts to ensure his team don’t suffer an immediate return to the Championship.

TBR View – Slimani could be a decent addition to the Baggies ranks

Although the man with 69 caps for his country hasn’t really produced the goods for Leicester, there’s been enough to suggest he is capable of scoring goals throughout his career.

The striker has 30 goals for his county and scored goals at Monaco and Sporting Lisbon.

Slimani is paid £80,000-a-week at the King Power and with that in mind, a loan would suit West Brom at this stage.

If he could go to the Hawthorns and impress, the Baggies could be in pole position to complete a brilliant free transfer when his contract expires in the summer of 2021.
