The Express & Star have reported that West Bromwich Albion must fork out £8.25million to sign loan star Matheus Pereira on a permanent basis from Sporting Lisbon, after a stunning start to his temporary Baggies spell.
West Brom finally agreed a move for the Brazilian playmaker on deadline day, paying an initial £750,000 to take the former Nuremburg star on loan for the 2019-20 campaign. He has since starred for Slaven Bilic’s side.
Pereira has had a hand in five goals for the Baggies during his nine West Brom appearances. He scored in the 2-0 away win over QPR, but it is his creativity that has given West Brom a boost – laying on a huge four assists.
Sporting want £9million in total, so they have the opportunity to pay £8.25million at any point during the loan. There have been suggestions that a deal could be made permanent in January.
However, a permanent deal will become an obligation to buy, if the Baggies gain promotion to the Premier League or Pereira reaches a number of appearances – expected to be between 30 and 35.

TBR’s view – So far, Pereira at £8.25m is a bargain for West Brom
Pereira has been excellent for West Brom. Of Bilic’s summer signings, Pereira, Semi Ajayi and Romaine Sawyers have been excellent for the ex-West Ham manager so far. Indeed, that core could deliver promotion.
Even if West Brom do not get promoted, the fee for Pereira is a bargain. That is because if he continues to perform the way he is doing, he will be worth a lot more than the permanent fee.
