Crystal Palace are planning to offer Andros Townsend a new contract as the West Bromwich Albion summer target heads into the final months of his deal at Selhurst Park, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (25/10; page 73).
Townsend has started all six of Palace’s Premier League games so far this season. He has scored once and provided two assists for the Eagles.
Nevertheless, there appears to potentially be a little doubt over his future with Palace. As noted by the Sunday Mirror, his current contract expires at the end of the season.
It is suggested in the report that West Brom wanted Townsend over the summer.
He obviously stayed, and now Roy Hodgson wants to provide further clarity on his future.
According to the Sunday Mirror (25/10; page 73), Palace want to agree a new contract with the winger. It is suggested that it could be a long-term deal for the 29-year-old.
TBR View: Smart decision from Palace
Townsend – who earns £55,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – certainly has a lot more to offer, so handing him a new contract arguably makes a lot of sense.
He did not have the best year last term. But he has already eclipsed his overall tally of one goal and one assist. And there have been some extremely bright performances.
