West Bromwich Albion made late enquiries about the availability of Sporting CP striker Bas Dost, a report has revealed.
Record claim the Baggies wanted the 18-cap Netherlands international, but he had no intentions of moving to play in the Championship.

The rejection saw Albion instead raid Southampton for Charlie Austin, who will now compete with Kenneth Zohore and Hal Robson-Kanu.
A move for Dost was perhaps always going to be unlikely, with the 30-year-old having plundered a highly impressive 93 goals in the last three seasons for Sporting – 23 of those coming last term.
TBR’s view
Clearly Albion really wanted a prolific goalscorer in after losing both Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez.
Salomon Rondon also departed to reunite with Rafa Benitez in China.

Dost – a former teammate of Baggies newbie Matheus Pereira of course – would have been a sensational coup for Slaven Bilic, but the club must now move on and hope Austin is able to find some good form this season.
Austin has a respectable goalscoring record in the Championship and absolutely has the potential to fire the Midlands club back to the Premier League.
