West Bromwich Albion continue to keep Dwight Gayle on their radar, as the Newcastle United striker heads into the final months of his Magpies contract, according to the Chronicle.

The 31-year-old is yet to make an appearance for Steve Bruce’s men this season due to injury.

However, he went into the campaign off the back of a run of four goals in his final eight league games last term.

He has recently returned to training (via Chronicle). So it may well be that Newcastle fans soon get a better idea of whether there is a chance of the forward earning a new contract.

The Chronicle notes that it is not out of the question for Gayle to extend his stay on Tyneside. But should he become a free agent, it would appear that one of his old clubs could come calling.

According to the Chronicle, the Baggies are still monitoring the forward. But it is suggested that a return to the Hawthorns is unlikely if he gets a new deal.

Judging by the report, it would appear that a January loan, for example, would be unlikely.

And if Gayle – who earns £40,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – rediscovers the form that he showed at the end of last season, perhaps it would be safe to assume that the Magpies would attempt to tie him down to fresh terms.
