West Bromwich Albion look to be in a strong position as they look to sign Troy Deeney, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Baggies are in talks with Watford over a potential move for the Tottenham Hotspur target.

The Mail reports that Deeney is being tracked by a number of Premier League sides following the Hornets’ relegation, including Spurs.

However, it is suggested that West Brom lead the race. And the Daily Mail has reported that talks between the two clubs have begun.

The Mail notes that Deeney is one of the players not required to take a pay-cut following relegation. So it would appear that his current side are open to moving the 32-year-old on.

TBR View: Coup for West Brom, as long as Spurs do not act

Deeney has been a consistent goalscorer in the top flight. He has reached double figures in three of his five seasons in the Premier League with the Hornets.

So it would appear to be a good piece of business for West Brom if they could reach an agreement. Slaven Bilic surely needs to add more goals to his ranks this summer.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs act upon hearing the Baggies have opened talks.

He may not prove to be a marquee addition for Jose Mourinho’s men. But he is potentially a player who can make an impact as an understudy at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
