Jonathan Leko is closing in on a move to Birmingham City, but the Daily Mail has suggested that the West Bromwich Albion youngster could have moved to a Championship rival had events played out differently this week.
Leko is reportedly heading for a medical with the Blues, with the Mail reporting that Aitor Karanka’s side are set to pay £1 million for the youngster.

The Mail notes that Queens Park Rangers are also keen on Leko. And it appears that Slaven Bilic’s side offered Mark Warburton’s men the chance to take the 21-year-old to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
According to the Mail, West Brom included Leko in their bid for Eberechi Eze. However, it is suggested that Eze is close to joining Crystal Palace for £19.5 million.

Eze’s decision may come as an additional blow to Warburton. The Mail notes that Leko was eyed as a potential replacement for the 22-year-old.
So while the club’s finances will be bolstered with almost £20 million, Warburton still faces the challenge of replacing his talisman from last season.

Leko faced a tough task trying to break into West Brom’s side this term, particularly following their promotion to the Premier League.
Nevertheless, a £1 million sale seems a little underwhelming. Leko impressed in the Championship last season and has a lot of potential as he is only 21.
