West Bromwich Albion have made what may be something of a last-ditch attempt to land Cedric Kipre, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Baggies have made an enquiry while the defender was discussing a potential move to Blackburn Rovers.
Slaven Bilic’s men have made a quiet start to the window. The newly-promoted side have so far only completed a permanent move for Matheus Pereira. But it appears that they are now stepping up their plans.
The Daily Mail has reported that Kipre was in discussions over personal terms ahead of a £900,000 move to Ewood Park. However, the Baggies have now registered their interest.
The report does not suggest whether West Brom will match Blackburn’s bid. But it is noted that their intervention could scupper the latter’s hopes of signing the 23-year-old.
TBR View: Kipre could be a shrewd signing for Baggies, but Bilic needs more
For just £900,000, it is difficult to argue that signing Kipre would not be a very good piece of business. However, the Baggies surely need more in that area of the pitch before the season starts.
They arguably have a number of good central defenders. Semi Ajayi was an inspired signing ahead of last season.
And adding Kipre to those options would be smart. But you could understand if some supporters wanted further additions at centre-back before the deadline passes.
