West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Watford striker Andre Gray.
According to the Express & Star, the Baggies have held talks with the Hornets about a possible loan move for the 29-year-old.
The club also continue to work on a deal for Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant, who is the primary target after scoring 19 goals for the Terriers in 2019/20.
Huddersfield are said to be demanding £16 million, and with Albion having shelled out £20 million of their budget already on Grady Diangana, it appears a transfer will not be straightforward.
Hence the interest in Gray, who cost Watford a reported £18.5 million in 2017 (BBC Sport).
Watford have apparently indicated to West Brom that they are open to loaning the Englishman.
TBR’s View – An underwhelming addition
West Brom fans will hope a breakthrough can be found soon in the negotiations for Grant, because Gray would be a somewhat underwhelming alternative.
He scored just two Premier League goals last term, and has just 16 in 94 games for Watford.
His Championship record is much better at 41 goals in 88 games, but West Brom are now int he top-flight and need someone who has demonstrated goalscoring prowess more recently.
