Report: West Brom eye Matt Clarke; Brighton want £5m
West Brom are interested in signing Matt Clarke, with The Sun reporting that Brighton may decide to let the centre-back leave this summer.
Clarke signed for the Seagulls back in 2019. However, the 24-year-old is actually yet to make his debut for the club.
Instead, the former Portsmouth man has spent two years on loan at Derby County. He has played 77 times for the Rams in the Championship.
And it appears that now may be the time that Brighton decide to cash in. According to The Sun, the Baggies and Sheffield United want the defender.
The report suggests that he could cost just £5 million.
Could Matt Clarke be a replacement for Kyle Bartley at West Brom?
As things stand, Valerien Ismael needs to bolster his options in several areas. The Baggies currently have an extremely small squad.
And that squad could be reduced further, if reports from this week prove to be accurate.
It was claimed that both Crystal Palace and Newcastle want Kyle Bartley.
It would be a big blow to lose Bartley. He is a leader, and he has formed a decent partnership with Semi Ajayi.
Clarke is left-footed, so would be able to step into that role if needed.
He did win Derby’s Player of the Season in his first year, so he is a proven performer in the Championship.
And he may be a smart signing – whether Bartley stays or not.
