West Brom are close to the signing of Galatasaray striker, Mbaye Diagna, with the Express and Star claiming a deal has been agreed.
Diagne has been a target for the last few weeks for Albion. New manager Sam Allardyce has been desperate to bring in some new faces.
The Galatasaray striker has made a big impression over in Turkey. He had scored nine goals in eight games before being sent off recently and has scored 30 times in a campaign before, during the 18/19 season.
Diagne, then, could be exactly what West Brom need if they are to have any hope of staying up. Their humbling at the hands of Manchester City last night was a crushing blow. Allardyce was frank in his assessment afterwards, too.
The likes of Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant have tried to lead the line for the Baggies. However, they have scored just three goals between them all season.
TBR View: A fine move by West Brom, Diagne should give them something different
Albion needed new players and Allardyce has made no secret of it. Getting in a goalscorer in Diagne is something of a coup, then.
The striker will bring pace and power, as well as a keen eye for goal. He should also allow for Allardyce to play his more direct style of football, given he’ll be able to run in behind and get hold of the ball.
It at least shows West Brom fancy their chances at survival. It’s up to Allardyce now to get the players working in tandem.
