According to a report from The Sun, Watford have joined the race to sign Jose Cifuentes, with Celtic and Manchester City still interested in the young midfielder.
The Sun reports that the Hoops and Cityzens were keen on landing the 20-year-old in the summer. However, the report notes that City’s move for the 20-year-old fell through after proving too expensive, with his agent reportedly set to take a portion of the fee.
Nevertheless, it appears that the list of admirers chasing Cifuentes is growing. The Sun reports that the Hornets have entered the running.
Meanwhile, The Sun adds that Celtic and City remain interested. And with Cifuentes now making his debut for Ecuador’s senior side, it is believed that it may be easier to secure a work permit further down the line.
It would be a real statement for Celtic if they could win the race for Cifuentes. It is clearly not going to be an easy task.
Two Premier League clubs are already reportedly interested. Meanwhile, the suggestion that City backed away from a move over the cost is somewhat concerning given the riches available at the Etihad.
Scott Brown’s form this term suggests however, that Celtic need to think about refreshing their midfield options. So it will be interesting to see if the club decide to take a gamble on Cifuentes.
The interest in him suggests it could be a masterstroke.
