ESPN have claimed that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk wants to sign a new contract at Liverpool after helping the Reds achieve Champions League glory for the sixth time.
The 27-year-old colossus has starred for Liverpool this season, in what was his first full campaign at Anfield since joining the club in January 2018 for £75million (ESPN).
The 26-time Netherlands international has clocked up an enormous 50 league and cup appearances for the Reds. He has helped Liverpool keep 26 clean sheets, as well as scoring six goals – even in the Champions League.
Spotrac claim van Dijk is earning an enormous £180,000 a week at Liverpool, and that his contract will expire in the summer of 2023. But now, van Dijk wants a new deal.

The report states that it is not as though van Dijk is looking to push through a move or requesting more money, but that he is desperate to strengthen his position at Liverpool for many years to come.
TBR’s view
Right now, there are no better defenders in World football. Van Dijk is the best, showing that despite boasting a colossal frame and unbeatable aerial ability, he is still more than adept with the ball at his feet.
It should be a no brainer for Liverpool, then, that van Dijk is given what he wants. A new contract should be tabled immediately, if the report is to be believed.
