Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker are both reportedly close to agreeing new contracts with Liverpool.
According to football publication 90min, the senior Reds duo are both on the verge of signing new deals to extend their stays at Anfield.
It is understood that the Merseyside club have been discussing a new deal with 28-year-old centre-back Van Dijk since last summer and finally he’s very close to signing.
The report also adds that 27-year-old goalkeeper Alisson has been talking about a fresh contract since the summer and may sign on the dotted line imminently.
They have both been influential players in helping Liverpool win the Champions League trophy last season, plus they have helped them reach touching distance of this campaign’s Premier League title.
Van Dijk is on a £180,000-a-week deal as it stands and Alisson £90,000-a-week (Spotrac), but both are expected to receive pay rises.
Klopp unsurprisingly uses both the world-class talents on a regular basis and previously raved about the ability of Alisson.
“His character, how calm he is, helps us a lot. He makes the difficult things look easy. A fantastic boy, a fantastic goalkeeper and good to have him here,” Klopp said in January 2020, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
It’s a no-brainer to lock down the futures of key players at Liverpool, with Van Dijk and Alisson firmly fitting into that category given they are arguably the best in the world in their positions right now.
Both players were included in the FIFA team of the year for 2019 and Klopp’s side should pay them whatever they demand to keep, as they would find it nearly impossible to find replacements.
Van Dik has earned the right to be called the best defender in the world right now and the influence that he’s had on his side since he joined from Southampton in 2018 has been colossal.
Meanwhile, Alisson has a staggering 41 clean sheets in 79 appearances for the Reds.
