Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad have claimed that Vincent Kompany and Anderlecht want to raid Tottenham and land young goalkeeper Jonathan De Bie on a free transfer this summer, but face competition.
De Bie, 19, is out of contract at the end of the season and the Belgium Under-19 international is likely to be allowed to leave Spurs – given the north London side boast other options in the reserve side.
Indeed, Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin continue to be used as options with the Under-23 outfit. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has Michel Vorm, Paulo Gazzaniga and captain Hugo Lloris in the first team. It leaves little chance for De Bie.
The Belgian needs to leave Spurs in order to pursue his career and a move to Anderlecht could see him become the Belgian side’s second goalkeeper. Former side KV Mechelen are also keen, as are Gent.
TBR’s view – Tottenham should let De Bie leave
Unfortunately for De Bie, it seems he has little chance of breaking into the senior side – and even ousting the likes of Austin or Whiteman as first-choice stopper for the reserve team.
With his contract expiring this summer, it makes sense for the player to leave and if he is happy to warm the bench alongside Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri and Nacer Chadli at Anderlecht – then Spurs should sanction a move.
