Report: Villa's interest in Arsenal and Newcastle target Hickey has cooled
Aston Villa’s interest in Aaron Hickey has cooled due to the presence of Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race to sign the left-back this summer, according to Birmingham Live.
Villa are keen to sign a new left-back in this window. Matt Targett has joined the Magpies permanently. And Birmingham Live reports that Ben Chrisene could be loaned out next season.
The Villans want Calvin Bassey at Rangers, but the Gers have set a £25 million asking price. They also have their eye on Hickey.
Hickey’s career has moved to the next level since he left Hearts for Bologna. And it now seems that he could get the chance to move to the Premier League, with the Serie A side open to an £18 million sale.
Reports previously claimed that he was close to sealing a move to Arsenal. Perhaps those suggestions were a little premature. But it does appear that the Gunners’ interest in playing its part in putting Villa off a move.
Birmingham Live reports that Arsenal, Newcastle and Napoli wanting Hickey has led to Villa’s interest cooling.
Aston Villa’s interest in Hickey has cooled
Villa have flown out of the traps at the start of this window. They have already signed four players, with both Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara set to be key men next season.
Villa appear to have the means to compete with most in the Premier League. So it is a surprise that they are not keen to battle with Arsenal and Newcastle over Hickey.
He is an ‘amazing‘ prospect with a very bright future ahead. And he is set to cost considerably less than Bassey.
So perhaps it should not be a surprise if Villa’s stance changes before Hickey’s future is decided one way or another.
