Report: Villa to extend attacker’s contract to 2024; Ballon d’Or winner thinks he’s ‘perfect’
Aston Villa have reportedly extended Louie Barry’s contract with the club by one extra year to 2024.
According to Birmingham Live, the 18-year-old attacker has penned an extension with Villa. As per the report, a slew of prospects involved with last season’s FA Youth Cup win have also signed new deals with the club.
Dean Smith is keen to promote several youngsters into the first team ahead of next season. Barry was one of the club’s best-performing players at youth level. The teenager scored 20 goals in 26 matches for Villa.
Furthermore, Barry scored in his sole senior team appearance last campaign. The striker bagged in Villa’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup. The Midlands side were forced to field a youth team against the Reds due to a Covid-19 outbreak.
Moreover, Barry’s goal drew praise from former Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen, who praised the attacker’s ‘perfect’ strike against the former England international’s boyhood club via Birmingham Live.
Next season will be one of the most exciting for Villa supporters in some time. With Jack Grealish likely to remain with the club and Emi Buendia a new part of the squad, the Birmingham-based club could make a splash in the Premier League.
And Barry’s promotion and new Aston Villa contract will be something fans will be keen to track next season. The striker has proven to be a lethal finished at senior level, and in competitions such as the League Cup and FA Cup, the teenager might find himself with plenty of first-team chances under Smith.
