Report: Victor Orta compiles two-man shortlist in case Marcelo Bielsa leaves Leeds, one might cost £25m
UOL claim Victor Orta has shortlisted Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira, and Sporting Lisbon gaffer Ruben Amorim – in case Marcelo Bielsa leaves Leeds.
Bielsa, 66, is out of contract at the end of the season but that will be of no concern to Leeds. He is worked on a 12-month rolling contract since joining.
What will be a concern, is that he is now in his fourth season at Leeds and has easily surpasses the amount of games managed – than any other club.
At 66, Bielsa could be in his last job and retirement might be close. As any good sporting director does, a couple of replacements have been drawn up.
Ferreira, 42, has won the Copa Libertadores with Palmeiras two seasons in a row. In Brazil, he is considered a future Brazil boss.
Meanwhile, Amorim won the double with Sporting last season. But UOL claim that getting him out of his contract would cost Leeds a huge £25m.
Amorim and Ferreira: Orta right to plan for Leeds future
While it will be a sad moment in time for Leeds fans to wave goodbye to the man that has returned them to the big time – it is going to happen.
The approach from Orta looks as if he will go down a similar road to Bielsa. South American, or a manager with the kind of flair Bielsa boasts.
However, the difference between Amorim and Ferreira – and Bielsa – is that the aforementioned duo are 20 years his junior, if not more.
It is planning for the future. Leeds fans will be happy that Orta is ready to find a replacement – but many will hope Bielsa stays.
