Tottenham Hotspur are one of the Premier League sides who have expressed an interest in young Romanian defender Kevin Ciubotaru, according to a report in Telekom Sport.

The 16-year-old, who is currently a free agent, has reportedly had trials with Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Watford in the past few weeks.

Ciubotaru has been described by Italian outlet Mondo Primavera as a “very talented” prospect who has already featured for Romania’s national team at youth level.

Tottenham, along with the other three Premier League sides, were said to be interested in the youngster but “legislative problems” meant no deals were struck.

The Roma-born defender will now be training with Parma’s Under-16 side with a view to impressing the coaches at the famous Italian club and perhaps sealing a deal.

Telekom Sport adds that the former Rapid Vienna youngster, who can play both at centre-back and left-back, has a “great chance” of linking up with the Serie A side.

For a young player to interest several leading Premier League teams, he has to have something special about him, and Ciubotaru, having already featured for Romania’s youth sides, sounds like a great prospect.

Unfortunately, those “legislative problems” seem to have put paid to any hopes of a move to an English club, based on the Telekom Sport report, and as such, it looks as though his future will be in Italy.

Nonetheless, given his age and talent, the likes of Spurs will most likely continue to keep tabs on him to see how he develops, potentially making a move in future once red tape isn’t as much of an issue.
