Spanish website Levante EMV have claimed that Valencia want to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira before the end of the window as he continues to struggle for game time at Atletico Madrid – but failing that, could sign an Aston Villa player instead.
Torreira, 24, joined Atletico on a season-long loan in the summer but has failed to hit the heights expected of him, with Thomas Partey going the other way. He has managed just two La Liga starts all season for Diego Simeone’s side.
There have been numerous rumours that he could return to Arsenal and go elsewhere with Valencia now pushing for the £75,000-a-week midfielder (Spotrac). However, Javi Gracia’s side also have a back-up plan – involving a Villa player.
Indeed, if a move to sign Torreira fails, the report claims they will target Villa’s out-of-favour midfielder Marvelous Nakamba – who has managed less than 200 minutes of Premier League football this season. He cost £11million (Telegraph) in 2019.

TBR’s view – Torreira should jump at chance to join Valencia
Following the financial mess of the summer, Valencia have been left with a threadbare squad that has seen them turn to numerous young plaeyrs – including English talent Yunus Musah. They need players.
A move to Valencia, then, would see Uruguay international Torreira get plenty of game time. For Valencia, they will certainly be hoping they can strike a deal for the South American – who is a considerably better option than Nakamba.
