Report: Valencia interested in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira
Valencia are interested in signing Lucas Torreira from Arsenal as Los Che close in appointing Gennaro Gattuso as their new manager, according to a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb.
Torreira’s future remains uncertain. He is coming towards the end of his loan with Fiorentina. And he has spoken of his desire to remain in Florence.
However, reports claim I Viola do not want to pay as much as £12.8 million to sign Torreira permanently. And with that, Arsenal may have to look at offers from elsewhere.
Tuttomercatoweb reports that Torreira is certain to leave the Emirates this summer. And he is now attracting attention from Valencia.
Valencia are reportedly set to appoint Gattuso as their new manager. And it seems that one of his first signings could be the Uruguayan.
Valencia interested in Lucas Torreira
Arsenal will welcome the additional interest in Torreira, who cost them £26 million. Unfortunately, it appears that he has no future with the Gunners. So their focus will be on securing the best fee possible for the 26-year-old.
It is a surprise Fiorentina are not triggering the option to keep him. He has been a regular fixture in the side this past season in Serie A. Bernd Leno meanwhile, once labelled him ‘incredible‘.
Perhaps Valencia’s interest may spark a change of heart from them. They will surely not want to see him move elsewhere.
Torreira meanwhile, may appreciate the chance to move to the Mestalla. Gattuso, of course, is one of the best holding midfielders the world has seen since the turn of the Millennium.
His aggression and work-rate were crucial to his game. And Torreira has some similar attributes.
Gattuso has got a mixed record as a manager. But perhaps he may actually be the ideal mentor for Torreira.
