Spanish outlet Levante EMV have claimed that Valencia are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo this summer, and a deal could be completed sooner rather than later.
Manquillo, 25, is in his third season at Newcastle after joining the club for £4.5million (The Sun) in the summer of 2017 from Atletico Madrid. But he has managed just 46 appearances in all competitions for the Tyneside club.
Indeed, he has fallen down the pecking order at St. James’ Park following the capture of Emil Krafth from French side Angers SCO. It has seen him become third choice, behind DeAndre Yedlin and Krafth.
This season, Manquillo has managed just two outings for Newcastle this season, playing the entire 90 minutes against Arsenal before coming on as a substitute in the Carabao Cup penalty-shootout defeat against Leicester.
TBR’s view – Newcastle should sell Manquillo, simply not good enough
Manquillo has not been good enough during his time at Newcastle and that is why Steve Bruce opted to bring Krafth to Tyneside. Now third choice, he is surplus to requirements at the club.
If Valencia are willing to pay a figure similar to what Newcastle paid for him, then The Toon should sell. Valencia need cover after qualifying for the Champions League, where they take oin Chelsea, Lille and Ajax in the group stages.
