Unai Emery is keen to offer Matteo Guendouzi a way out of Arsenal this summer, with Foot Mercato reporting that the Villarreal boss is interested in taking the midfielder on loan ahead of next season.
Guendouzi has not featured for the Gunners since June. And Foot Mercato reports that both the 21-year-old and Mikel Arteta want to agree a move away during this window.
Interestingly, it looks as though a familiar face may be the one to offer Guendouzi a fresh start.
Foot Mercato claims that Emery has made contact with his old club about a move for the 21-year-old having made the youngster his priority target this summer.
The report notes that Villarreal have started talks with Arsenal over a potential loan move. The deal would reportedly include an option to buy.
TBR View: Loan not ideal for Arsenal, but may increase Guendouzi’s value
If Arteta is going to be working with a modest budget, a loan move for Guendouzi may not appeal too much.
But it would be a surprise to see the Frenchman play for the club again. So if a loan with an option to buy is the best offer on the table, the Gunners would surely take it.
Ultimately, it could help increase Guendouzi’s value for a year’s time should the Yellow Submarine opt against making the move permanent.
Arsenal fans were not left with too many fond memories of Emery’s tenure. But perhaps their former boss may be about to help them offload one of their unwanted players this summer.
