Report: Unai Emery enquires about Arsenal target Neto
Arsenal will have to see off competition from Unai Emery if they decide to pursue a move for Neto, with Sport reporting that Villarreal have enquired about the Barcelona goalkeeper.
Neto could leave the Nou Camp this summer. He has only made nine La Liga appearances since arriving two years ago.
Barca are open to letting him leave in search of regular football. But Sport claims that they would want more than £12.8 million.
Sport notes that both Arsenal and Everton have the 32-year-old on their wishlists this summer. However, he is not a priority for either club.
It would obviously be a surprise if the Toffees made a move. Rafa Benitez has already had his ranks bolstered with the arrival of Asmir Begovic.
But Arsenal are yet to sign stronger competition for Bernd Leno. So perhaps they may indeed still have the former Fiorentina man on their radar.
But if the Gunners do want to sign Neto, they may have to see off competition from a familiar face in Emery.
Sport notes that Villarreal have made an enquiry. And it is suggested that Neto would like to join the Europa League champions.
The potential good news for Arsenal is the Yellow Submarine do not have the ability to meet Barca’s asking price.
They would like Neto on loan, or with players moving in the opposite direction.
Arsenal may have better option than Neto in mind anyway amid Emery interest
According to Football London, Arsenal’s top goalkeeper target is Aaron Ramsdale. But he will cost around £30 million.
Another name reportedly on their radar is Sam Johnstone. And the West Brom star is apparently available for just £12 million.
Johnstone was superb in the Premier League last season. So if Arsenal are looking at a low-cost option, perhaps he would be the better target.
Neto has played for some brilliant clubs. But Johnstone is a few years younger and has been featuring regularly in the last couple of years.
