Spurs are scheduled to play Rennes in the Europa Conference League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night.

However, a report in the Daily Mail has claimed that UEFA are “giving serious consideration” to postponing the Spurs game.

Indeed, Tottenham are reportedly optimistic that the game won’t go ahead.

Spurs officials have apparently been in talks with UEFA representatives with a view to getting the game called off.

There is significant belief that the European Conference League game will now go ahead at a later date, added the Daily Mail.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte confirmed on Wednesday that eight members of the Spurs first-team squad and five staff members have tested positive for covid.

UEFA regulations mean the match cannot be postponed unless a club has fewer than 13 players or no registered goalkeeper available.

On Tuesday, the Evening Standard reported that UEFA expected the game to go ahead.

Conte admitted to Sky Sports that “the situation is serious” and the Spurs camp was “scared” about what would happen next.

If the Daily Mail report is true, it looks as though European football’s governing body could be about do a U-turn.
