Report: UCL side have to sell 26-year-old ace Liverpool 'love' if they want to sign new players
Atletico Madrid have to sell Liverpool target Saul Niguez if they are to sign new players this summer due to La Liga salary restrictions.
According to AS, the reigning La Liga champions will not be able to sign a striker, or any new players, this window unless a major departure is made first.
And Saul is the strongest candidate to leave the UEFA Champions League side. Liverpool ‘love’ the midfielder, as per the report.
Diego Simeone’s side recently signed Rodrigo De Paul, taking their wage bill to the edge of the La Liga limit.
Salary problems have been a big problem for top-flight Spanish sides this summer, particularly FC Barcelona.
Indeed, this works well in Liverpool’s favour. The Reds are keen to sign a new midfielder this summer following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum.
And Saul has appeared as a strong target to replace the Dutch international. Moreover, as per AS, a move to the Premier League is becoming more likely for Saul.
Barcelona are interested in the midfielder, with a swap deal with Antoine Griezmann being touted. However, talks have cooled between the two Spanish giants.
With Liverpool keen to sign a central midfielder this summer and Atletico needing to sell Saul this summer, the Reds now have an outstanding chance to sign the Spanish international in the coming weeks.
The 26-year-old midfielder has excelled for Atletico since emerging as a key first-team player for the La Liga champions.
And under Jurgen Klopp, Saul could become instrumental for Liverpool as they aim to fight for the Premier League title next season.
